Product Description
The versatile Big Berkey system is the ideal system for use at home with small or medium sized families, travel, outdoor activities or during unexpected emergencies.
This powerful system filters both treated water and untreated raw water from such sources as remote lakes, streams, stagnant ponds and water supplies in foreign countries, where regulations may be substandard at best. Perfect for outdoor activities and a must in hostile environments where electricity, water pressure or treated water may not be available.
The Big Berkey system removes pathogenic bacteria, cysts and parasites and reduces harmful chemicals such as herbicides, pesticides, and VOCs without removing the beneficial minerals your body needs.
Constructed of highly polished 304 stainless steel, the system comes complete with four 7" ceramic elements. This system has a storage capacity of about 2.25 gallons (8.5 liters) and when in use it stands 19.25" in height with a diameter of 8.5". The upper chamber nests within the lower chamber for transport and stands only 13" in height.
The system will filter about 25 to 30 Gallons (95-115 liters) per day.

I did not want a water filter that I had to plumb in under the sink or anything that I would have to attach to the water faucet. When I researched the ceramic filter with the carbon center and the impregnated silver and the number of gallons of city tap water that this unit would process ~ 6,000 gallons! ~ I calculated that I would break even, at one dollar a gallon at the store, in less than one year. Added to this, the first set of filters will last well into ten years. Being conservative, and assuming I use only 300 gallons a year that is 3,000 less plastic containers going into land fills, thousands of dollars saved, 24,000 pounds of water I do not have to carry from the grocery store to my home ~ water weights 8 pounds per gallon ~ and who knows what else. I fill it up at night and have water all day. I am proud to own... Read more 14 of 15 people found the following review helpful Essential. Quality. Affordable. Effective., By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Big Berkey Water Filter with 4 7" British Berkefeld Ceramic Filters The Big Berkey is the highest-recommended water filter for families interested in emergency preparedness. Affordable and effective, it purifies water making it suitable for drinking. Recommended by James Rawles (Patriots) at survivalblog.com, I purchased it and put it away "just in case". 6 of 6 people found the following review helpful Peace of Mind, By This review is from: Big Berkey Water Filter with 4 7" British Berkefeld Ceramic Filters We've had our Big Berkey for 10 years now and I appreciate it more all the time. One thing I did not realize is the ceramic filters last virtually forever and I bought a box of them -- totally unnecessary. We use it to make the water taste better, but it's a relief knowing we will have good water even after a hurricane or if there is a boil water alert. It's easy to fill, plus, there's no plastic bottle waste, no lifting cases of water from the store. The only possible negative is you do have to wait for the gravity feed to filter the water if you have just filled it. I think that is more than off-set by the positives. |
