These filters should last through all of 2009 if replaced every 3 months as stated on the box. I noticed my coffee tasting a little bitter over the past few weeks. We throw the carafe in the dishwasher along with all of the parts. I then decided to replace the filter a month early and I noted two shocking things. 1: the filter and the grey filter holder had mold all over it. We could not even pull the filter out without it sticking. 2: The base were the filter holder sits had a puddle of water in the unit. This unit has not been used in over two weeks. I have contacted Krups and they have stated that I need to wait for a supervisor to call me back (24-48hrs) and I should be using a calcium "calcify"cleaner in the machine "often". No exact amount of times but "often" was given.Be aware that you might have to wipe the water out of the base under the grey filter holder. Krups suggests : Descaling...
